May 15 Venice
We woke up again today to the same breakfast as always, but hey, at least it is included. After breakfast we got on the coach to head to Venice! I was so excited, Venice is the place I’ve always wanted to go to the most. When we woke up it was raining, so we were all hoping it would clear up. We got on the coach for the majority of the afternoon and slept. It rained the whole time, and word was that it wouldn’t clear up. When we got to our campsite near Venice it was still raining. The ‘camping’ was ideal though... very luxurious camping. We stayed in mobiles that had beds and bathrooms with showers.. Not really camping at all. Anyhow we got in our rain gear.. thank goodness I brought some. I walked out of the mobile and an Australian commented on my attire.. “Wow, you have an umbrella, and a rain jacket! I don’t even own one of those!” Haha. It was funny watching the Australians come out in their t-shirts, they don't know how to prepare for differing weather. I'm from Utah... where we can get all four seasons in one day!
Then we all loaded the boat to take us into Venice. When we got there it was very cold and windy. It was pretty miserable. I was upset, the one place I wanted to see the most had to have bad weather when we were there. We went on a walking tour, our tour guide was this really cute little Italian lady that seemed really frazzled because of the weather, but she was still really sweet. I just remember her turning around after talking to us and saying kind of to herself ‘oomph straight ahead of us there is an invasion of pigeons’ like it caught her off guard. It was really funny. The walking tour was fun despite the rain and cold.
Then we went on a gondola ride. This was the part I was waiting for the most!!.. and it SUCKED!!! It was all rainy and wet. I felt like the gondola was going to tip over cause it was side heavy. So I kept leaning more on my side, but my seat kept moving and I couldn’t find anything to hold on to. So it was really frustrating. However, Venice is a very beautiful city, and I bet a gondola ride would be very romantic in the sunlight. Someone actually proposed to his girlfriend in our tour on the ride, so that lifted everyone spirits. After that my sister and I went to a restaurant and ordered pizza. It was so good! Very thin crust and a lot of cheese! It was interesting that they charge a cover charge to sit in the restaurant and add an automatic tip. So our 8 euro pizza quickly turned into 11.50 euro. It was still worth it though.
After pizza we picked up some gelato and ate it on the boat back to our campsite. I wanted to go and get souvenirs, but it was too cold and I don’t think my sister would have stayed with me... and I was worried that I would get lost. It was a fun day though, our pizza and gelato were so good! I guess I’ll just have to go back on a nicer day… ;)
